Installation Advisement & Case Studies
The DoD AKN Program provides direct support to installations to strengthen avian monitoring and data-driven decision-making. Our team can help installation managers refine monitoring and research questions, recommend appropriate field methods, and guide study design to meet INRMP and regulatory needs.
We also help installations set up customized AKN workflows so data are captured consistently, integrated quickly, and ready to answer critical conservation and mission-support questions. Advisement can also include reviewing existing monitoring programs to ensure alignment with an installation’s management objectives.
This page highlights case studies showing how installations have partnered with the DoD AKN Program to improve methodologies, streamline workflows, and build strong, actionable avian data programs.

Designing Baseline and Treatment Monitoring Surveys at Robins AFB
This case study from Robins Air Force Base shows how the DoD AKN Team worked with installation staff to develop objective-based bird surveys that support INRMP updates and restoration monitoring. Through Office Hours, the team helped identify expected species, select appropriate survey methods, and build a complete study design and AKN workflow tailored to the installation’s goals.
